Ongoing Storylines

As now stated in the rules, unlike other "themed" games such as this one, we do not have one overall plot for the game. Having a single plot for the entire game, in my opinion, might hinder interaction. One might feel left out, if they feel their character does not completely fit into the overall plotline, and this could lead to characters being dropped and/or removed.

So, instead, Back To The Basics has not one, but multiple storylines going on at one time. This enables a player to find a storyline that fits their character, and potentially makes room for more character develop, with various relationships and such.

Other scenes, random scenes, that have nothing to do with the current ongoing storylines, are still perfectly fine.

Currently, there are several storylines ongoing. Read on for a full list of those storylines, with summaries, and a link to all posts and whatnot affiliated with that particular storyline. Some of these storylines may overlap at some point, but not all of them will. When an ongoing storyline is completed, it will be moved to another list of completed storylines.

Rules

1) Biggest rule of all: please do not mix IC and OOC. This will result in removal and banning.
2) You are required to update your character journal at least every three weeks. If you need an extension of some sort, feel free to ask, but otherwise, you risk removal.
3) Obviously, activity is essential. If you're not participating in threads, we like to know that you are being active otherwise. If you are rping over aim instead of threading, we ask that you post one aim log per week in the main community. Posting in [info]metrocomms and [info]metroboard also classifies as activity, but only to a point.
4) Please, no spamming the friendspage. Posting a thread and then posting in one of the other communities or your journal is fine, but flooding your friendspage is not. It's annoying, and immature, so please refrain from doing so.
5) Multiple versions of essentially the same character will not be allowed. For example, there have been at least three incarnations of Supergirl. If someone brought in the Matrix version, neither version of Kara Zor-El would be allowed. And on the subject of multiple characters, until there are ten members in the community, only one character per player is allowed. Two characters per player are now permitted, but your first character must be active for at least two weeks before you can pick up another.
6) Characters created during The Death of Superman storyline (Superboy, Steel, etc.) will not be allowed, unless you can creatively come up with a way for them to exist without interfering with the storyline as it exists in the game.
7) We encourage you to blend the backgrounds of your character. We require that they have a basis in comicdom, but if you'd like to blend in elements of other media versions of the character, feel free. For example, if you like Perry White's history on Smallville, but you prefer to have the personality of Perry on Lois & Clark, your Perry can have both of those.
8) Characters from other parts of DC Comics are definitely allowed. They don't even have to be in Metropolis at the time to interact.
9) Original characters? Are A-OK. Just make sure they fit into the game, rather they're famous, an honored citizen, or a villain. Until we have all the main canon characters, you are required to have a canon character before you apply for an original. If you only want an original, please wait for the main canon characters to be filled.
10) Marriages and pregnancies are allowed within game, however, they must happen in a believable amount of time. For example, Kat and Lex couldn't suddenly decide they're in love and get married in 24 hours and then, just as suddenly find out they're going to have a baby a few days later. These things typically happen over time, and we expect it to be played out that way. However, if your character is the type to randomly get married, feel free to ask the mods ahead of time. Pregnancies must be played out a full nine months, no exceptions, and no miscarriages.
11) This is potentially going to sound harsh, but any gay/lesbian/bi-sexual versions of characters will not be permitted into the game, unless they are gay/lesbian/bi-sexual in canon. For example, if you brought Maggie Sawyer in, she would allowed to be a lesbian, because, canonically speaking, she is. But, if you wanted to bring in, say, a Perry White that was flamboyantly gay, that would not be permitted. For a list of canonical characters that fall under this category, please check out THIS LIST. On an added note, a subtext might be permitted, seeing as how it's often presented that Lex is obsessed with Superman, The Joker with Batman, etc.
12) Unlike other "themed" games such as this one, we do not have one overall plot for the game. This game is unique, in that there are not one, but several storylines, or subplots, if you will, going on at one time. Please go HERE for more information.
Additionally, this community will have special "assigned scenes" once a week. Sometimes these will fit in with the ongoing storylines, but sometimes they will not. This is not a requirement. You will find a special friends-locked sign-up post for this activity, complete with its own special rules, within this journal once you have been added. It is completely your choice if you participate.
13) For the love of Pete Ross, please read the bios of all the characters. I ask for the Bios to be in the journal for a reason. Just because the characters are here, don't expect them to have the same exact background as they do in the comics. We are including other mediums here, as well, so please remind yourself of that.
14) Though you may put in an application, and even if it ends up listed under pending, please keep in mind that we do have the right to reject your application. This can be for a variety of reasons, but the more common reasons will be that your writing style does not mesh with other players already in the game, or that your interpretation of your character is not suitable for the game. You are free to reapply at a later date, if you'd like, with either the same character, or a different one altogether. Please keep in mind that you will only be allowed to apply up to three times. Once you receive a third rejection, all further requests for holds and applications will be ignored.
15) Last but not least, this game is meant to be fun. Respect each other, and play nice, and we'll all have a good time here.

Any questions? Feel free to ask.
